Tijuana Leads Solar Panels Development

Baja California is placed at the national forefront in the field of clean energy generation after the inauguration on Thursday of the production area of solar panels from the Japanese company Kyocera in Tijuana.

The Secretary for Economic Development of the State Government, Alejandro Mungaray Lagarda, reported that an investment of $ 30 million the company will generate 600 new jobs at its plant in this city.

The firm plans to manufacture solar modules in this and three more similar operations capable of generating 500 megawatts in 2011.

The other plants are located in the Czech Republic, China and Japan.

It will soon be increasing, just at its plant in Tijuana, production of solar panels from 35 MW to 150 MW per year.

“With this step, the state becomes leader in clean energy production in the country, if one takes into account the effort of this investment and the operation is completed this year of the wind power plant in the rumors,” said state official.
