Eco Housing to Endure Cold Weather
“Homes of thermal comfort” is called the project that runs the National Engineering University (UNI) in rural areas of the Peruvian Andes, in the case of Puno Pisacoma district, with the aim that the inhabitants of these parts to improve their quality of life before the intense cold in winter hits.
The project will be implemented for areas that are located above the 3 thousand meters of altitude, said the president of UNI, Aurelio Padilla, who said that this type of housing is characterized by using solar energy as a heating source for inside housing, and a design that prevents the escape of heat from the premises as well as building materials typical of the area as the adobe and the bunch grass, which significantly reduce the cost of its construction.
Padilla, the engineer said that with the homes of thermal comfort six to eight degrees Celsius can be raised in air temperature inside the Andean rural housing, allowing its residents to live in better health and to have a better performance in their daily activities.
The first homes will be delivered in the coming days in the Vilcallamas (Puno) and San Francisco de Rajmin (Ayacucho)communities, located at 4 thousand 500 and 3 thousand 700 meters, respectively.
He stressed that this contribution to the solution of a serious problem as to improve the quality of life of the high Andean communities was conceived by the Social Screening Program, Community Assistance and Renewable Energy Center of UNI.
This project demanded fourteen months of research, the vast majority of that time was working in the field were recorded air temperature and relative humidity inside and outside environments of the prototype thermal comfort homes, he said.
This is compounded by the use of solar energy through collection equipment during the day as solar cells and storage for later use in the evening for lighting environments, and to boil water and cook, thereby minimizing the incidence of gastrointestinal diseases.
