First Solar Ski Lift

in Solar Energy

The city of Skiwelt, Austria, has inaugurated the first lift (cable cars to climb the mountain) which is driven by solar energy through solar panels.

This ski lift named Sonnenlift uses only solar energy, which saves energy and help in the fight against climate change.

Solar panels have been installed in a ski area of 105 m2 capable of producing 15 kW, a total of 12,000 kWh a snooper, and since the ski lift only uses 9.000 kWh per year, there will be no problem. The surplus energy is being stored in batteries to meet the needs of very cloudy days or when there is something wrong.

The lift has a length of 205 meters, with capacity to transport 900 people per hour between the area of Westendorf and the rest of Skiwelt.
