Espanyol’s New Stadium Will Have Solar Panels

Abasolo and the football team Espanyol presented on Friday a draft of a 600kW photovoltaic plant in the future stage of the Catalan club. The renewable energy company will become the new sponsor of the team during the next two seasons.

The facility will be located on the roof of the South and Gol Gol North feud Espanyol and generate 680,000 kWh per year of electricity, ie, the annual consumption of 200 homes. The plant will avoid the emission into the atmosphere from some 360 tonnes of CO2 emitted a conventional power station.

Abasolo was in charge of design and carry out installation and maintenance of the photovoltaic plant. Work began just this Monday and will last about ten weeks.

For John Marull, executive vice president of Prestige Group, “the construction of this photovoltaic plant in Espanyol’s new stadium is a flagship project for Abasolo both in design and the relevance of where it is installed. We are delighted that the club has clearly bet for an efficient model and you have entrusted us to carry it out. ” The plant will generate revenue for the club of more than 217,000 per year through the sale of electricity.

The plant will have a total area of 4524 m2 and 2720 will consist of 220 Wp solar panels each. The modules are arranged along the slope of the decks, which is 1.15 degrees and placed in galvanized steel supports.

The facility also contains 4 inverters of 150 kW which will transform the energy captured from the sun into alternating current to be injected to the grid. The evacuation of the energy is performed at 25 kV line to be built to supply the stadium.

The group Abasolo, with over ten years experience in processing, design and installation of solar photovoltaic plants, has ten offices spread throughout the Spanish geography. The signing of 40 million euros turnover in 2007 and has over 30 employees. Since its establishment, Abasolo has designed and installed over 300 solar projects currently in operation and has 39 MW in the pipeline.

Since January 2008, Abasolo belongs to Prestige Group (60%) and Group Inland (40%), thus providing a solid platform that allows the firm’s future growth and synergies.
