UAM University Installs Solar Panels

In association with the institute of Electric Research (IIE), scientific and technological organization of the federal government, UAM will be the first institute in Mexico with a 50 kw photovoltaic system in order to generate electricity with solar energy, interconnected with the National Electric Network.

Therefore, UAM will install and operate a plant to energize a building of their Iztapalapa Campus. With this system the international norms of the International Energy Agency will be applied. The information derivate from their research and the evaluation of their functions will be relevant for the scientific tasks, because it will feed databases, helping to the development of renewable energies researches.

This collaboration, generated by Óscar Monroy Hermosillo and Jorge Huacuz Villamar, will start the line of this new norm, allowing bands of power to grow and be expressed in the resolutions pf the Regulatory Commission of Energy.

Huacuz Villamar emphasized that the use of renewable energies opens the opportunity to reactivate the national industry, thus insisted to the specialists to penetrate in the creation of productive chains in this field.

On her side, Mireya Ruiz Amelio, investigator of the Department of Engineering of Processes and Hydraulics of the Iztapalapa Campus, indicated that the solar installation with greater capacity of generation in the country is of 30 kilowatts and feeds a business located in the Coyoacán Delegation on the Mexico City.

Viniegra González said that “Our more abundant resource is due to be useful, the Sun”. He also said that “It is important not to turn aside the attention in the ethanol” that will not solve the problem of energy of the country, because it is not profitable and it would not manage to cover 2 percent of the gasoline needs. Within the framework from the signature of this agreement, 26 members of the University -professors and students of the degrees in Energy and Electrical Engineering received a certificate to have attended the Curse of Photovoltaic Systems Connected to the Electric Network, decided with the IIE at first agreement.
