The Installed Capacity Of Wind Power Worldwide To Reach 120.8 GW
Last week we talked about how during 2008 wind energy installations in the United States had reached record numbers.
Today I am very pleased to announce that the worldwide growth of wind farms was also a record.
According to GWEC, the wind capacity last year increased by 28.8% more than the average of the last decade and reached a total capacity of 120.8 GW. Over 27 GW of wind power were installed in 2008, 36% more than in 2007. United States surpassed Germany at number 1, but we must be vigilant of China that is growing very fast.
In 2008, China added 6.3 GW of capacity, reaching a total of 12.2 GW, is the fourth consecutive year, doubling their capacity. If they continue this way, they will beat United States (with 25.1 GW) and Germany (23.9 GW), faster than you think.
A lot of money and work in the wind industry
Market for wind turbines installed last year was 47.5 billion dollars. According to GWEC, 400,000 people now work in this industry. With 35,000 new jobs in the United States during 2008, totaling 85,000 jobs in wind energy there.
GWEC means Global Wind Energy Council, or Global Wind Energy Council.
