The Vatican Receives A Solar Gift

The Vatican now has 2.394 solar modules just beside their renewed Cathedral of San Pedro.

The German company SolarWorld AG installed a solar energy system on the roof of the Pope“s hall of audiences as a gift to the Roman Catholic Church. Yesterday, Pope Benedict XVI received more than 10,000 people under the roof covered with solar panels.

“This solar plant is designed to send a message in favor of clean and environmentally friendly energy,” said Frank H. Asbeck, Chairman of SolarWold AG.

The solar power plant located on the Paul VI audience hall has a peak generation of 221.59 KW, enough to generate over 300,000 kWh of electricity. This is equivalent to the annual consumption of 100 households.

The Aesthetic and sophisticated plant was linked to the historical view of the Vatican in a great effort in both technical and architectural way. The inverses were donated by SMA Technology and the network connection provided by the Italian Tecno Spot.

Pope Benedict XVI has promoted the causes for the environment and protecting the planet by using renewable energy.
