KTAO is the first radio station with solar power in the United States. It has 140 photovoltaic solar panels that generate enough power to transmit radio waves from the station.

Using the sunny climate of New Mexico, KTAO solar panels generate more than 100,000 watts of clean energy. To promote the use of solar energy KTAO people organize a music festival each year, known as the Taos Solar Music Festival.

KTAO is not a new radio station; they use solar energy since 1991. You can also listen to their programs via the Internet.

Telecom operators have recently taken important decisions regarding renewable energy as an alternative or even primary source of energy. In South Africa for example, they have BTS station equipped with solar panels, the bad thing is that they were stolen not long after they were installed.
