Ultra Thin Solar Panels
Swiss company Oerlikon Solar developed a new extremely thin and transparent solar panel. Its name is TCO (transparent conductive oxide) 1200.
These are thin layers with the capacity of transmitting light, acting like electrodes and “light tramps”, key components of the thin modules of silicon.
According to Oerlikon Solar the TCO process is offered exclusively by them.
The first factory producing this new generation of “light traps” is going to be located in Erfurt, Germany. And it started in August, 2008.
“By introducing this exclusive TCO technology, we’ve turned into the fist company selling thin layers of silicon” said Uwe Krüger, CEO from Oerlikon.
Oerlikon alone supplies the equipment and consulting for the most important production steps of this article, including TCO, laser structure and final assembling.
In addition, the company told that this new production plant will use renewable materials and environmental friendly processes. This also will lower production costs.
