South America Solar Energy
With more than six thousand inhabitants, the border district of Lancones in Piura, has become the great revelation of South America, because it is the first in a line border with another country that uses solar energy through solar panels, for agricultural work and their own livelihoods. For several years this area has depended on many aspects of Ecuador; so that in the absence of local telephony in the district one can go up to the first town north of the country, buying a cell there, and just make calls to Peru with a card of ten dollars.
Therefore, recently the Binational Border Development Plan Peru-Ecuador, which aims to raise the standard of living of the populations of both countries near the dividing line, developed a project to create alternative development in Lancones, which has been relatively successful in the north.
Moreover, these solar panels will allow installing Peruvian satellite signal because the few channels that can be seen belong, once again, to Ecuador. So a few months ago it was possible to establish the Peruvian TV signal and it is being evaluated to make available to other television companies.
The project was developed by the University of Piura, via Jorge Viera SernaquƩ, with funding from the Binational Fund. Only in the village of La PeƱita to 15 minutes of Ecuador, where equipment from Peru.com got, 16 solar panels were installed to pump water, generate electricity and allow the operation of their computers.
