Solar Power Provides Internet Access And Improves Quality Of Life

The head of the international technical assistance for this project, EURO-SOLAR, engineer Fabio Lucantonio says that there is going to be implemented in designated areas of Paraguay, a photovoltaic solar panel, a charge regulator, a converter and a satellite antenna to ensure the operation of type five notebook computers, multimedia projector images, a team of IP telephony and a battery charger for cell phone.

These equipments will be placed in schools or community centers such as temples or hospitals. Furthermore, to repeaters installed Wi-Fi systems that are connected to each of the computers. In this way, it is estimated that for the second half of 2009 the inhabitants of these towns may use the Internet thanks to sunlight.

“Many who live in these places never even had access to a computer,” says Lucantonio. For this reason, the work of the project will not be limited solely to the placement of the machines but also to training on the use and potential that can be obtained through them. For this, joint work will be drawn with the Ministry of Education and Culture with responsibility for teacher training in the area so that these in turn, educate the public regarding the use of this technology.
