Solar Energy Motorcycle
The “Urban Motorcycle” is a project from the Spanish company SUNRED. It consists on previewing every aspect and ethnologies needed to put out in the market an urban motorcycle with an electric engine fed with solar energy, emphasizing the use of alternative technologies rather than conventional designs: Solar energy storage and management and an electric engine.
Due to the complexity of the energy management, solar energy in this case, and to improve the ergonomics of its use, they installed a digital LCD touch screen gadget to receive and manage information about consumption, charge and usual data of distance/speed, etc.
One of the most important challenges of this project is to find a way to locate in a safe and efficient place the solar energy plates in a way to let them maximize the exposition surface. These plates retract when the motorcycle is running and expand when parked, giving autonomy for about 40 miles and a speed of 100 mph.
