The First Wave Turbine Installed
If you like to be aware of renewable energy, you probably heard about the idea of generating electricity with the energy of waves, or moving boats with this energy source. But until recently there were no installed wind turbines that harness the energy of waves to produce electricity. Last month the first one was installed in Northern Ireland.
The wave turbine has two turbines of 16 meters in diameter each and will be able to work from 18 to 20 hours a day. The turbine was installed in an area where the water is moving fast to get the most benefit. The turbines rotate only about 10 or 20 times per minute, so do not affect the marine life of the place.
The project cost 12 million pounds and can supply power to 1,000 homes.
