Solar Panels To Power A BMW

Future models of the German automotive BMW could be equipped with solar panels mounted on the roof in order to save fuel and cut pollution.

Solar energy would be used for charging the batteries to pre-heat liquids in the engine so that the cold does not affect the mechanical parts and are more efficient in fuel consumption.

The solar panels were shown in the BMW X5 SUV diesel hybrid at the show in Genova this year but they did not say when they will be ready to produce the cars.

According to BMW, 1 square meter of solar panel is sufficient to generate enough electricity to power or charge systems such as browsers and mobile devices.

It could also be used to preheat air conditioning systems.
