Paris Airport Will Use Geothermal Energy for Heating

The owners of one of the two airports in Paris announced that a third of the heat will come from geothermal energy.

AP reported that France was dug two wells 1700 meters deep each on the perimeter of the Orly airport, where the water is heated by the center of the earth and go up with pressure. Once the water reaches the surface at a temperature of 74 º C, it is injected into the heating system of the airport.

The chairman of Paris airports commented, “We are fortunate to have hot water under us, which can help heat the Orly airport without polluting using a renewable energy. We will be the first airport in Europe to do this. “

The project will cost $ 17 million and will reduce CO2 emissions by 7000 tons per year, representing a 35% savings related to the 20,000 tons emitted currently.
