First Solar Trash Compressor

In Mexico City, the urban family produces a cubic meter of garbage as a monthly average, resulting in three million cubic meters for the entire city.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) has found that in 21 states of the country there are 124 abandoned sites that are contaminated with hazardous waste volumes estimated in 33 million tons, reported SolidWoks.

For this reason the company launched the BigBelly trash bin, the first solar trash compressor, designed with CAD solution for SolidWorks 3D mechanical design.

According to the company, BigBelly is used in places such as shopping zones, restaurants and pavilions for shows. It measures 127 centimeters tall and weighs 136 kilograms (kg) and only uses solar energy, to compact and store five times the amount of waste containers of the same dimensions can.

The tank stores solar energy even on cloudy days, it can run a whole day with the same energy it takes to toast a slice of bread. Or for eight years, with just the necessary energy to drive a garbage truck for a mile and a half.

Angel Ribó, national sales manager of SolidWorks Mexico said that the success of the green movement is measured by increases or decreases; in this case BigBelly is an example of innovation against a global problem.

The fact that it has been adopted so rapidly in the United States and other countries has shown that there are ways of reducing the impact on the environment with a BigBelly.
