Turning CO2 into fuel with solar energy
Sandia National Laboratories are working on a prototype that concentrate solar energy to convert carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide, which can be used to synthesize many fuels.
The Sandia Lab’s CR5 was originally designed for the separation of hydrogen using solar energy, but researchers noticed that the potential of the system was sufficient to convert carbon dioxide into energy sources.
The plan for the CR5 is to trap carbon dioxide directly from the air (now done in a laboratory), which would be an artificial tree that removes carbon dioxide and returns us a useful and non-polluting gas.
