CIEMAT (Research Center on Energy, Environment and Technology) has launched a pilot plant in AlmerÃa to produce hydrogen from solar energy and water. Hydrosol II, how the new facility is called, “will allow the use of the enormous potential of solar radiation and its conversion to fuel suitable chemicals such as hydrogen, through the dissociation of water, which in itself is of great technological interest” says CIEMAT.
The integration of solar concentration systems with systems capable of dissociating water is considered the most important long-term solar fuel production to reduce the hydrogen cost and secure emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) to zero.
The decomposition of water into its two basic elements, hydrogen and oxygen, is carried on thermochemical cycles (consecutive reaction). The project aims to implement Hydrosol II concentrated solar radiation to provide the temperature required for these reactions to break the water molecule occur. The ultimate goal, is to achieve a sustainable source of hydrogen.
Hydrosol II represents the “logical follow” to the Hydrosol project, which lasted four years (2002 to 2005) and involved research institutes and international companies. This second part aims to “provide the technological leap that will allow the transfer to industrial and business technology for hydrogen production using solar concentration.
The new plant is part of the Plataforma Solar de Almeria, part of the project Small Solar Power Systems. It is built with monoliths special materials in the form of honeycomb to absorb solar radiation, in turn coated with highly active oxygen-containing materials that serve as traps for oxygen and dissociation of the water molecule.

Solar energy is new industrial revolution is the 21st century .The information about solar energy is very interesting and also useful for me.I also developed a web site for solar called “SOLAR ENERGY AND SOLAR POWER”.My web site provides all-in-one solar energy site is providing all the information and products you need to start your own solar power project.
My friend on Orkut shared this link and I’m not dissapointed at all that I came to your blog.
